A/C air conditioning systems are quite complex so can over time develop many different issues.
Some of the most common issues ive come across with a cars air con system are :
- Leaking refrigerant
Gas will naturally leak from a cars a/c system its usually in the race of 5-10% and over time this will affect the cooling and eventually will shut the system down when pressure get to a certain level. Its always best to test for leaks if the problem is more serious.
- Blocked/clogged condenser
This will restrict the air flow through the condenser , this reduces the cooling ability of the condenser and refrigerant will overheat causing only warm air to be expelled within the car.
- Electrical issues
Harder to fault find but common are electrical faults, from broken or damaged wires harnesses and connectors, Relays pressure switches, fan motors etc. The A/C system is very electrically dependent.
- Faulty cooling fans
Typically an electrical issue but important enough to be mentioned separately, this can cause symptoms similar to the condenser blockage.
- Bad compressor
The compressor is a moving component and subject to wear and tear its also controlled electrically so a defect compressor needs to be proven before replacing.
